The Trials of Shazam!
1) In the midst of battle with Captain Nazi, the not-so good Captain pushes Freddy over the edge with his taunts. Acting out of his anger, Freddy accidentally "kills" him. Being Captain Nazi, he'll probably be back at some point, but for the moment, he is quite dead.
2) As punishment for this abuse of his powers, Freddy is stripped of them.
3) Despondent, Freddy isolates himself from the rest of the Marvel Family, but when he sees a woman being threatened by gang members, he can't help but try and intervene. Even without his powers, even with blood on his hands, he's still a hero. Unfortunately, he gets his ass kicked.
4) As he's laying bleeding, he receives a vision of Uncle Sam, who tells him he's still got it in him to be a hero... but he's got to prove himself. There's still Heroes of Myth and Legend who think pretty highly of him, and want to see him get a second chance... if he wants to take it. Freddy does. Uncle Sam points him to five locations he must visit... But before he goes, just to show he's rootin' for this underdog, Uncle Sam passes on a little bit of... Power.
5) In West Virginia, Freddy must win a deadly race against Mr. Atom in order to receive the Speed of John Henry!
6) In Massachusetts, Freddy must face down the massively powerful Typhoon in order to prove he has the Courage of Alfred Bulltop Stormalong!
7) In Pittsburgh, Freddy must overcome his own weakness and stand up to King Kull, Lord of the Beastmen, in order to receive the Stamina of Joe Magarac!
8) In Illinois, Freddy must find a way to outsmart Doctor Sivana and show he has the Wisdom of Johnny Appleseed!
9) And in Minnesota, Freddy must find a way to best IBAC, in order to earn the Strength of Paul Bunyan!
10) Gifted with these new powers and a new name... (possibly Blue Marvel), Freddy must face one last challenge... the risen Captain Nazi! This time, Freddy controls himself and royally defeats the villain without killing him.
